A Great Mix of Americana and Rock Music

The Shelter Road Band is headquartered in Morgan County, Tennessee; home to Frozen Head State Park, the Obed Wild and Scenic River, and many other natural wonders found on the eastern edge of the Cumberland Plateau. The band is available to play shows in and around the east Tennessee area. We primarily play a great mix of covers and originals that fall between Americana and rock but will also throw in songs from other genres like country and alternative rock. To get a better idea of what we do, check out the Set List tab and listen to (and download for free) our originals under the Music tab.

The band plays establishments like bars and restaurants for minimal fees just to cover costs and enjoys playing community events like fall festivals, Relay For Life, and various fund raisers for free. Contact us to set up gigs, be added to our email announcement list for upcoming gigs, or for any other reason through our Contact tab.

The current Shelter Road Band line-up includes:

Dave Sill ("Sill" or Wildman Sill (even though he is perhaps the quietest/calmest one in the band)), bass
Dave Sylvester (Dave or Dave the Drummer or "The Man"), drums, guitar, vocals
Robert Stewart (Robert or Big Bob or Roberto), lead guitar, piano
Doug Freels (DUG "just like it sounds" or DougOut ), lead vocals, guitar

Current favorite SRB Quote: "Well…we are recording."  -Dave Sylvester

New Album: Shelter Blues!

We're thrilled to announce that our second album, Shelter Blues, is now available for downloading and streaming through all of usual channels including iTunes, Spotify, Google Play Music, Amazon.com, CD Baby, Youtube, and many more. Very soon, physical CDs will be available from CD Baby. We also have them at shows, of course.

Shelter Blues takes the listener on a troubled yet resolute journey. The songs observe the struggles and triumphs associated with recovery, longing, acceptance, and the desire for inner peace. A unique version of WayFarin’ Stranger accompanies nine Shelter Road Band original compositions to complete the album.

Here's the title track, "Shelter Blues":

2012-09-06 Lincoln's Sports Grille

Our Thurday night show at Lincoln's Sports Grille in Oak Ridge was a huge success. Lincoln's is a great venue--good food and drink, no smoking, nice stage with lighting, and they treated us well. Thanks Adam and everyone else at Lincoln's!

Our fans, the Roadies, turned out in force and gave the band a real boost. Thanks to everyone who came by!

We're looking forward to returning to Lincoln's soon.

2012-08-25 Art in the Park

We had a great time entertaining at Art in the Park at the Obed Wild and Scenic River office Wartburg. The main purpose of the event was to announce the winners of the first Obed photography contest--and there was fierce competition with lots of great flora, fauna, and landscape shots. We also celebrated the 96th anniversary of the National Park Service.

Thanks to everyone at the Obed office and the wonderful SRB fans who made it out.

Doug's friend Mike McIntosh met the band at Clark Center Park and Ciderville and took a bunch of great shots. Here's a slideshow of some of our favorites.
